"What do you do to catch a Leprechaun?” This was the question that my five year old son met me with at the door this afternoon. Apparently the school day was filled with tales of leprechaun trappings and unbelievable riches gained which is better than what they usually hear about at school. My seven year old daughter informed me that her friend, in the 1st grade, was rich because of all of the pots of gold he has acquired over his vast life span. “He has a dirt bike, a four wheeler and a convertible and well he’s just rich.” she proclaimed excitedly. Instead of bursting their bubbles filled with joyous childhood fantasy I totally indulged them and we went on a leprechaun hunt. It included our shih-pom Lolly, some Cheetos and some beads we were going to pass off as jewels to trade the leprechaun in exchange for his much sought after pot o’ gold.
So how did things turn out? Will I be retiring at a young age motoring around town in a brand new convertible that I’m actually old enough to drive? Alas no. The leprechaun hunt could be classified as unsuccessful in the matter of monetary wealth but worth more than millions in the amount of happiness an afternoon with my kids can bring.
Devotedly,
